Details of paintings in progress
The two shots above are details of paintings I have had on my easel recently. At this stage these are very much works in progress. The images show what are called underpaintings, since they really show the basic building blocks of color and shape that I am developing over top of my initial pencil drawing at this early stage. These depict the less fun, down and dirty work of the oil painting process in my opinion. There is absolutely no edge refinement or finish yet.
The top image is going to be a still life that was inspired by a recent trip to a pub in London, while the bottom image will end up being a still life for my 2020 Christmas holiday card (yes I try to do those this far in advance). I usually always conceal my holiday card paintings until the day in December they go in the mail, but today is your lucky day!
